    Prior to joining UNESCO Bangkok in 2017, Ms. Jun MOROHASHI was an assistant programme specialist in Division for Human Rights and Fight against Racism and Discrimination in the Social and Human Sciences Sector in UNESCO Paris from 1999 to 2007. She became a programme specialist in Peace, Human Rights and Global Citizenship Education in the Education Sector from 2007 to 2014 before serving as the chief of Education Unit at UNESCO Port-au-Prince Office, Haiti from 2014 to 2016.

    Ms. MOROHASHI has a MA in Sociology from Hitotsubashi University in Japan and a Diploma in Social Sciences from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris in France. She is currently pursuing her MSc in Psychology at the University of Derby in United Kingdom.

    CHO Heeyeon is the 21st superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (2018.08.01 ~ Present) and is also serving as the co-chairman of Professors for Democracy and the director of the Democracy and Social Movements Institute in SungKongHoe University. He has diverse experiences in both academic field and civil society field.

    Previously, he worked as the director of the Graduate School of Civil Society and Welfare of SungKongHoe University (2001.01 ~ 2002.02) and the deputy secretary general of People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (1997.09 – 2000.09).

    As a scholar, he has had a wealth of international experience. He was a visiting professor in University of Southern California (US), University of British Columbia (Canada), National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan) and Keisen University (Japan). He holds a B.A. in Sociology from Seoul National University, a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Yonsei University.

    Monika FROEHLER serves as the CEO of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens in Vienna. Before that she worked in the team of the former UN SRSG for Sustainable Energy for All Kandeh Yumkella. During her time with the Austrian Foreign Ministry, she was advisor and press spokesperson for two Austrian State Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, and before that she covered meetings at the United Nations in Vienna and worked for the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in Geneva. She spent more than 14 years in multilateralism in Geneva, Vienna and New York.

    As part of the APM Ban Convention Secretariat, she managed an EU Grant for the implementation of the Convention. FROEHLER is an alumna of the Mediterranean Diplomatic Academy and the Vienna Diplomatic Academy. In addition, she holds a diploma in child pedagogy and worked as a teacher in Austria and the UK.

    Priscilla KINI is currently the Gender and Research Lead of the Open Dove Children’s Foundation, an NGO dedicated in promoting peace and an enabling environment for children and young adults in Ghana. She doubles up as a facilitator of the Interpersonal Fluency Skill Development trainings, a project that aims to educate students and teachers on soft-skills needful for collaboration and social awareness.

    She studied Biological Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and works as a graduate research assistant at a medical research lab in Ghana. Currently, she is an MPhil Clinical Microbiology candidate and hopes to start her studies in September.

    Aside from her love for medical research, she is enthused about promoting peace and has received numerous training on peace advocacy. Her activities at the Open Dove Children foundation has been that of promoting peace and education for the past 3 years teaching students, teachers and young people to be interpersonally fluent.

    Olha BONDARENKO is currently studying Political Science and International Relations at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey.

    She is a member of the European Youth Parliament, an organization which brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current problems in a parliamentary setting in order to provide the youth with non-formal political education and critical thinking skills. She is a laureate of the European Commission’s 2017 Youth Essay Competition on the topic of “The Essential Skills of the Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow.

    She has been volunteering with refugees from Syria and Afghanistan teaching them English, and leading the Human Rights English Conversation Club for the local Turkish population. In Istanbul, she is volunteering with the Turkish Crescent providing international and cultural awareness lessons to disadvantaged elementary school students.

    Mr. Diego MANRIQUE is the coordinating Core Team Member of the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Youth Network, an international and independent youth led organization that works with youth organizations around the globe to advance GCED and empower youth at all levels.

    He comes from Guatemala and studied International Relations and Political Science in the national university in his country. He also has a background in journalism. He works with different local and international organizations on strengthening youth capacities and leadership development. He has also worked with cooperation agencies to provide technical support to young political leaders in Central America to effectively influence politics and strengthen democratic regimes. He has a strong interest on democracy, human rights, cross cultural understanding and all forms of diversity. For the past 6 years, he has been actively involved in advancing GCED though multicultural understanding initiatives, facilitating trainings, workshops and talks with different stakeholders in different countries.

    As a trainer and facilitator, she is mainly designing and carrying out trainings and seminars in the fields of global learning, global volunteering, anti-biased education, outdoor learning, community building, and informed active citizenship. Her passion is a non-formal, interactive and experiential learning approach, where participants can be fully involved with and hands in diverse topics for a better tomorrow, for everyone. She is part of many local initiatives including .

    She finished her studies of international relations at the Faculty for Social Sciences in Ljubljana. She grew both personally and professionally through various non-formal projects since she was 17, starting as a volunteer with a local students club.

    Prof. Paola Molina NICHOLLS is currently a trainer of Breathe International. With the organization, she integrates mindfulness and Global Citizenship education in Colombia. She is a trainer of national teams, with knowledge on designing Mindfulness based intervention programs for local and community contexts with special emphasis on vulnerable and armed conflict regions, with a focus on violence reduction, conflict resolution and emotional management. She has great experience in holistic, creative and body-centered therapies, and also works as a private psychotherapist with kids and families.

    She studied Psychology at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and holds a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of Development at the University of Cauca. She is also a Biodanza Instructor, certified by International Biocentric Foundation (IBF).

    Marcelo TRIVELLI is a Civil Industrial Engineer, graduated from Universidad de Chile and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration of the University of California at Berkeley.

    In 2003, he founded Fundación Semilla, an NGO with a focus on youth. Twelve thousand teenagers have participated in leadership workshops regarding citizenship, non-violence, culture, environment, community, etc. At present, Fundación Semilla has engaged, along with UNESCO, in developing an innovative pedagogical tool aimed at teachers based on gaming methodology in order to promote GCED in schools.

    Since the early nineties, he has been a board member of Fundación Tacal where handicapped persons are trained and integrated to labor and of Parque del Estuario, a native forest conservation project.

    During the eighties, he lectured in the Faculty of Engineering in Universidad de Chile. From 1990 to 1994, he was an advisor to the President of Chile. In the early 2000s, he was appointed Intendente of Chile’s capital region, Santiago.

    Mr. Dylan WRAY is the co-founder and director of Shikaya, a South African non-profit organization that supports teachers and school leaders to ensure young people leave school thinking critically, and acting as compassionate, engaged, democratic citizens. Since 2005, in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves (USA), Shikaya has trained over 10 000 South African teachers and reached over 1 million young people.

    Dylan works globally as a facilitator, materials developer and author. His latest book, ‘www.aschoolwhereibelong.com’ explores issues of transformation and inclusion in South African schools.

    Roy has spent over 25 years as an educator and school leader in both under-resourced and well-resourced schools in South Africa.

    His ongoing interest has been education in a post-conflict societies and how it can be used to address the gross human rights violations of the past. He has attended and spoken at local, national and international conferences on this topic.

    Since 2006, he has worked with Shikaya and Facing History and Ourselves in designing and running national teacher training programmes that focus on teaching methodologies that encourage the development of critical thinking and democratic debate with the purpose of growing young people who are compassionate, engaged and active citizens.

    One aspect of this work has been running a whole school programme that addresses exclusion and discrimination at schools across South Africa entitled, ‘A School Where All Belong’. He has also co-authored a book with Dylan WRAY and Prof. Jonathan JANSEN by the same name.

    Fabrice TEICHER has been working for 20 years in the field of education, training and international solidarity. In charge of the training programs of the international projects of a scouting association, he then coordinated the educational department of the Holocaust Memorial in Paris, and later directed a humanitarian development NGO present in 12 countries, to help children in need.

    Historian by training, he has been working for 20 years on the issues of racism, anti-Semitism and especially on issues of memory and victim competitions and conspiracy theories. These works have led him to intervene for some years in PVE (Preventing Violent Extremism) programs in prisons, in schools and with professionals facing the rise of racism and extremism as well as with various international organizations including UNESCO. Fabrice TEICHER is a member of the Radicalisation Awareness Network of the European Commission.

    Virginia PITTARO is the Director of Global Partnerships at SIMA, an organization created to advance global awareness and social transformation through the power of cinema. She started her career at Endeavor where she developed a pioneer CSR Program to leverage the social impact of business entrepreneurs. Later, she worked at the United Nations Development Program Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative in New York. In 2012, she was the founding Executive Director of Sistema B Argentina, an organization created to promote a purpose-driven economy and companies using business as a force for good. In 2015, she served in the Ministry of Social Development in Argentina as the National Director of Innovation and Capabilities Development.

    Virginia holds a B.A in International Affairs, magna cum laude, at San Andres University in Argentina, and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and International Development at University of Maryland, USA with the sponsorship of the Fulbright Commission.

    Born in Patagonia, Argentina, Ezequiel CASARES graduated with an MFA in Cinematography from AFI (American Film Institute). He shot “Words Into Characters” with the Brazilian artist Jum Nakao, winning the Gold Clio Award. He was a cinematographer on Minimum Wage, a web series executive produced by Issa Rae and Project Greenlight. He also shot the first season of Macro series Re-Date.

    He is currently working on Adonai—The Last Gaucho, a documentary capturing the disappearing way of life of the Argentine cowboys. He is also working on diverse projects with clients such as Vice, MarvelTV, the Oscars and Great Big Story. He is currently a Jury Member at SIMA Awards, an annual global competition honoring documentaries and VR experiences that stand out in their creativity, integrity, and merit to inspire social change.

    Héctor Alejandro CANTO MEJIA has been the Technical Deputy Minister of Education of the Ministry of Education in Guatemala since 2016. He was a researcher at the National Team of Research for Inclusive Education in partnership with GOPA and Leibniz University Hannover, coordinated by GIZ in Guatemala. He was a teacher at the Management of Educational Quality at San Carlos University of Guatemala, and worked as an elementary, lower and higher secondary teacher in rural and urban schools in Guatemala. He was also a coordinator of extracurricular education for the Young People Presidential Program.

    He received a Master’s Degree on Leadership and Educational Management at Valley University of Guatemala and a Bachelor’s Degree at Pedagogy and Educational Administration at San Carlos University. He participated in several training courses and programs on education and served the community as a teaching trainer.

    Associate Professor LE Anh Vinh is Vice Director General of Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES).

    Vinh got his B.Sc. in Math (with Honors) and Computer Science from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2005 then pursued his PhD in Mathematics at Harvard University in 2010. Before joining VNIES, he held several positions at the University of Education, Vietnam National University, including Dean of Faculty of Teacher Education, Director of Center for Educational Researches and Applications, and Principal of High School of Educational Sciences.

    Prof. LE has published more than 60 papers at international journals in Math and Education. He is leading a working group at Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, Ministry of Education and Trainings on developing Vietnam Educational Strategy Plan 2021 – 2030.

    Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-VALENZUELA is presently the Director of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Secretariat (SEAMEO Secretariat). Dr. VALENZUELA took office on 1 April 2019 as the 18th Director of SEAMEO, to lead a regional organization in education, culture and science.

    Dr. VALENZUELA’s expertise is on educational policy research in the areas of internationalization of education, transnational and distance education as well as teacher education. She has published international and local articles, journals, technical reports and guidelines for some SEAMEO and other international organizations such as UNESCO, UNICEF, CHED and DepED. She also published Philippine Education in the International Encyclopedia of Education under Elsevier London.

    Dr. VALENZUELA holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Management. She was awarded as Doctor Fellows at the Royal Institution Singapore, an Eminent Alumni and Blue Ribbon Awardee as Distinguished Alumni of the Philippine Normal University in 2013.

    Julia HEISS is a social anthropologist and education planner with extensive experiences in design and implementation of education programs in the area of science education, technical and vocational education, girl’s education, education for sustainable development, education for sustainable consumption and climate change and DRR education. She has worked for the United Nations Education Culture and Science Organization (UNESCO) for 20 years in Kenya, France and coordinated programmes in several other countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. She has also worked for the Global Education Monitoring Report. Mrs. HEISS is currently working in the Regional Office in Southern Africa, based in Harare, Zimbabwe.     Dr. Jayanthi GUNASEKARA is the director general of the National Institute of Education, Sri Lanka. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a number of Post-degree qualifications from the Universities in Sri Lanka, winning a Gold medal for Post-graduate Diploma in Education.

    Dr. GUNASEKARA received a World Bank scholarship and followed Masters and PhD at the Institute of Education, University of London and won the Best Doctoral Theses Award, 2004 from the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society.

    She started her career as a mathematics teacher and subsequently joined the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service. Later she joined the National Institute of Education (NIE).

    After completing 26 years of service in various positions at the NIE, she joined the National Education Commission (NEC) as the vice chairperson in 2013. Dr. GUNASEKARA assumed duties as the director general of the National Institute of Education in 2016.

    He specialises in textbook policy, textbook development and the interface between curriculum, pedagogy and textbooks. He has worked in some 30 countries in total.     Nader HADIFEH is currently the advisor to the minister of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon for the Educational Center for Researches and Development (CERD). Prior to being nominated as Advisor to the minister of Education and Higher Education, he worked at the Lebanese National Ministry of Education and Higher Education for 11 years and served as a high school biology instructor.

    Nader HADIFEH studied Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, Lebanese University and received an M.A in Immunotherapy, University of Paris-Sud 11. He received a Ph.D from the department of Biology of Health Science and Environment (BioSE), University of Lorraine, Nancy-France, with the dissertation titled “Immunological Role of Interleukin-24: IL-24 and Mechanisms of Induction of Cell Death in B-Lymphocytes. He published “Interleukin-24 Mediates Apoptosis in Human B-cells through Early Activation of Cell Cycle Arrest Followed by Late Induction of the Mitochondrial Apoptosis Pathway” by HADIFEH et al, in Leukemia and Lymphoma revue.

    Libby GILES is currently a senior strategist and Head of Global Citizenship at St Cuthbert’s College in Auckland, New Zealand, where she is implementing a whole school approach to GCED that is aligned to the aspirations of the New Zealand Curriculum, UNESCO’s pillars of learning, and the SDGs. She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Human Rights.

    Libby has been active in the development of GCED over the last ten years in her roles as a secondary school facilitator and teacher, project adviser and a board member of the New Zealand Centre for Global Studies (NZCGS), and as the chair of the New Zealand Association of Philosophy Teachers.

    With support from the NZ Commission for UNESCO, Libby has undertaken a world study tour to look at developments in global citizenship education and build networks of active educators, groups and officials. Libby continues to work closely with those networks, locally and internationally, including UNESCO and APCEIU.

    OH Jinwon is a teacher at Seoul Aju Elementary School.
    He received his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Pedagogy from Busan National University of Education, Korea. And He is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Education at Seoul National University of Education.

    Besides teaching at the elementary school, he is a researcher on CeED(Center for Education Development) in NGO named HoE(Hope is Education). Before he started his career in Korea, He taught science to Tanzanian students for two and a half years as a KOICA(Korea International Cooperation Agency) volunteer.

    For the last five years, He has been interested in GCED and taught GCED to his students by using PBL(Problem Based Learning) methods, aiming to pursue universal values and respect diversity. He is also working as a facilitator among teachers for sharing ideas of GCED not only in Korea, but also in Malawi and Uganda.

    Dr. Sangeeta PETHIYA is currently working as an assistant professor in history, at Regional Institute of Education, NCERT in Bhopal, India. Prior to this, she taught social sciences for seven years at secondary level and has also been a school principal for four years.

    Besides teaching, she has also undertaken several trainings - on pedagogy and on the contents of social sciences and history, professional skills and ethics, classroom management, lesson planning and similar other topics. She also has several researches and research papers on diverse issues to her credit. Recently, she presented a paper at the International Conference on School Sciences entitled “Integration of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in Teaching of Science by Pre-Service Teachers: A Research Based Analysis”.

    Dr. PETHIYA has worked enthusiastically for the expansion of GCED. She has conducted several training programmes on GCED and has recently developed a handbook on GCED for teachers at upper primary level.

    A leading advocate of Global Citizenship Education in the Philippines, Dr. Serafin Angelo ARVIOLA Jr. is considered as a trailblazer among his peers in mainstreaming transformative education pedagogies in teacher education. He has committed his whole professional life in establishing a firm foundation trains youth leaders to be a catalyst for change in society. Dr. ARVIOLA started this journey when he completed his Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Science degree, cum laude, at the Philippine Normal University. He also garnered several academic distinctions like the Jose Rizal Outstanding Youth Leadership Awardee and Ten Outstanding Students of Manila. He continued his prolific life in the academe by taking up Master of Arts in Development Policy with specialization in Conflict Resolution at De La Salle University, Manila. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Peace and Security Administration degree at Bicol University where he embarked in deepening his research study on Global Citizenship Education (GCE) Initiatives among UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines.

    With his rich exposure and experience, he co-founded the National Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NAUCP), where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since its inception. Currently, he is serving as the Director of the Community Partnership and Extension Office of PNU where he embedded global citizenship in the community engagement programs of the university. He recently spearheaded various training programs for teachers and youth leaders on Global Citizenship Education funded by UNESCO Bangkok, UNESCO-APCEIU and UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines that resulted in the creation of GCED Network of Educators in the Philippines.

    With a BA in Psychology and an M.Ed and a Ph.D in Educational Psychology, Ms. CHOI worked in the Korean Educational Development Institute and joined UNESCO Headquarters as Chief of the Early Childhood and Family Education Section in 1998. Subsequently, she held various chief positions at UNESCO Headquarters in the areas of inclusive education, field support and coordination, technical, vocational and secondary education.

    In the field, she worked in Pakistan and also in Zimbabwe, as the UNESCO representative to Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe as well as to the Southern African Development Community. Since 2012, she is the incumbent Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development within the Education Sector of UNESCO Headquarters.

    Dr. LIM Hyun Mook is currently the Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), a UNESCO Categroy 2 Centre based in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. Prior to being inaugurated as APCEIU’s Director, Dr. LIM had served at the Korean National Commission for UNESCO for 27 years, and served as Assistant Secretary General of Education Division at the Korean National Commission for UNESCO.

    He studied Spanish Language and Literature at Seoul National University and received an M.A. in Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver. He gained a Ph.D degree from the Department of Political Science, Sogang University, with the dissertation titled, “A Study on the Politics of Cultural Diversity: Liberal Multiculturalism and Its Critics”. He published “UNESCO in a Changing World Order”, in Kyung Koo Han et al, in the Republic of Korea’s Vision in Relation to UNESCO in a Changing World Order, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Korean National Commission for UNESCO in 2019. He is a Visiting Professor, Graduate School of Culture Management, Sungkyunkwan University, the Republic of Korea to date.
