    Since 1st January 2020 Vibeke Jensen is the incumbent Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development within the Education Sector at UNESCO Headquarters. The Division covers, amongst others, education for sustainable development, global citizenship education, prevention of violent extremism, sexuality and HIV education, school violence and bullying, school health, and the UNESCO Associated Schools network with 11000 schools around the world.

    She joined UNESCO in 1989 and has held various positions in the Organization, both at Headquarters and in the field. Since November 2014, she has been Director of the UNESCO Office in Islamabad and UNESCO Representative to Pakistan. Her previous positions include Head of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi from 2007 to 2009, Director of the UNESCO Office in Dar-es-Salaam Salaam (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, United Republic of Tanzania) from 2009 to 2013 and UNESCO Director and Head, Secretariat of the Secretary-General's Global Education First Initiative (GEFI), United Nations, New York from 2013 to 2014.

    The Chief Administrative Secretary, Hon. Zack Kìnùthia, 32, assumed administration responsibility at the Ministry of Education in January 2020. Hon. Kìnùthia is a former student leader at University of Nairobi and has worked in management and leadership roles at various governance and civil society organizations for close to a decade. Some know him as a preacher man from his young days when he travelled around as gospel missionary. He is currently pursuing a degree in Law at the University of Nairobi and is also a holder of degree in Economics and Political Science from the same university. Folks consider Kìnùthia as exemplary in organizational leadership, with a dynamic passion in creating intersection platform between young people’s aspirations and their government’s agenda. He is currently championing nation-wide campaign to encourage youth to embrace government sponsored Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) skilling as reliable opportunity to earn better livelihoods and to prosper in a fast industrializing world.

    Carlos Alberto Torres, Distinguished Professor and Director, Paulo Freire Institute, UCLA, is a political sociologist of education who did his undergraduate work in sociology in Buenos Aires, Argentina (B.A. honors and teaching credential in Sociology, Universidad del Salvador), his graduate work in Mexico (M.A. in Political Science, Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, FLACSO) and the United States (M.A. and Ph.D. in International Development Education, Stanford University), and post-doctoral studies in educational foundations in Edmonton, Canada (University of Alberta). He is also the Founding Director of the Paulo Freire Institute in São Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and UCLA. Dr. Torres has been a Visiting Professor in universities in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

    Mr. Diego Manrique is the coordinating Core Team member of the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Youth Network, an international and independent youth led organization that works with youth organizations around the globe to advance GCED and empower youth at all levels. He comes from Guatemala and studied International Relations and Political Science in the national university in his country. He also has a background in journalism. He works with different local and international organizations on strengthening youth capacities and leadership development. He has also worked with cooperation agencies to provide technical support to young political leaders in Central America to effectively influence politics and strengthen democratic regimes. He has a strong interest in democracy, human rights, cross cultural understanding and all forms of diversity. For the past 7 years he has been actively involved in advancing GCED through multicultural understanding initiatives, facilitating trainings, workshops and talks to different stakeholders in different countries.

    Gary began his career as a secondary teacher and has been involved in regional, state, national and international initiatives particularly for values education, peace education, citizenship education and Global Citizenship Education. Gary has worked as a Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne and is currently working in the state Department of Education and Training where he leads projects providing overseas immersion programs for middle years secondary students. More broadly he is involved in promoting and implementing global Learning and engagement initiatives in Victorian schools. In 2018 Gary co-authored policy guidelines for global citizenship education development, for the APCIEU. Gary is also chair of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict, Peace Education Working Group. Gary has a Master’s Degree in Education with a thesis was on Restorative Practices in schools and a Ph.D. in which the focus was the development of interculturality in schools.

    Hyun Mook LIM is currently the Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), a UNESCO Centre based in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Prior to assuming this position, he worked as Assistant Secretary General for Education at the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, where he had started his professional career in 1992. He has taught at Sungkyunkwan University as a visiting professor. He received a Ph.D. in Political Thought from Sogang University, Republic of Korea and M.A. in International Studies from the University of Denver, Colorado, USA.
